One option the table doesn't capture: if your Aadhaar mobile number is active and seeded, you can grab an Instant e-PAN for free straight from the Income Tax e-Filing portal. Issued in under 10 minutes. No fee, no courier wait, no queue. Catch: this is only for individuals who don't already have a PAN. Companies, firms, and HUFs can't use this route.
It's right there on the status screen — look more carefully. The PAN appears as a 10-character alphanumeric string in the result message itself. If you still can't spot it, head to the "Verify PAN" feature on the e-Filing portal and search by name and date of birth.
That's an old slip — pre-2015 applications used 10-digit numbers. NSDL moved to 15 digits after that. If your slip has 10 digits, odds are you already have a PAN. Use the "Know Your PAN" feature on the e-Filing portal to pull it up.
